Lion Group Ready to Control Operations for Nataru (Christmas and New Year) Season 2024: Aircraft Rotation Optimization and Uncertain Weather Anticipation

Dec 20, 2024, 11:19 AM by Lion Air Public Relations

T A N G E R A N G, December 18, 2024– Welcoming Christmas and New Year holiday season (Nataru) 2024, Lion Group has prepared a thorough strategy to ensure flight operations are running smoothly. The main focus of the year is the optimization of the rotation of the aircraft and operational anticipation efforts related to poor weather conditions.

Lion Group has prepared strategic measures to deal with passenger surges and operational dynamics, especially facing potential extreme weather disruption. Safety, comfort, and punctuality are priorities.

Optimal Aircraft Rotation Strategy

Lion Group manages consists of modern aircraft such as Boeing 737-900ER, Boeing 737-800NG, Airbus A320, Airbus 330 and ATR 72-600, as a step in supporting operational smoothness in the Nataru (Christmas and New Year) period, Lion Group implemented:

1. Efficient Aircraft Rotation Schedule

  • Set the rotation of aircraft based on high demand routes such as Jakarta-Bali, Surabaya-Bali, Makassar-Sorong, Jakarta-Medan Kualanamu, Jakarta-Balikpapan and others.
  • Minimize turnaround time (turnaround turnover) through strict coordination between ground and air crew.

    2. Placement of Reserve Airport at Strategic Airport

  • Spare aircraft are placed at major airports such as Soekarno-Hatta (CGK), Ngurah Rai (DPS), Juanda (SUB), and Sultan Hasanuddin (UPG).
  • This reserve aircraft will be used to replace fleets affected by technical or poor weather disruption.

    3. Improved Technical Readiness

  • All Lion Group fleet undergo a thorough pre-flight check to ensure operational feasibility.
  • Support from Batam Aero Technic (BAT) technical team as an international aircraft maintenance center.

Operational Anticipation to Facing Less Good Weather

1. Real-Time Weather Monitoring

  • Lion Group is working with the Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) to monitor weather conditions across flight routes.
  • Operational team uses current weather data to set up safe flight lines.

    2. Dynamically Scheduled Re-settings

  • If the weather is not good enough to affect the schedule, Lion Group will reset the flight by prioritizing safety.

    3. Simulation and Preparedness Exercise

  • All air and ground crews have undergone simulations of poor weather conditions, including route diversion procedures and reset schedules.

    4. Increased Airport Lounge Capacity

  • With airport authorities, Lion Group ensures passenger comfort by adding lounge facilities in the main city to anticipate delays.

Lion Group Commitment: Passenger Safety and Comfort

The bad weather that changes at any time is a real challenge we face every year. However, with careful planning, coordination with related parties and modern technology, Lion Group is optimistic to serve all customers to the maximum.
